TRIP #4 - 2 COUNTIES

On Saturday morning, 3/17/18, Mary Lou and I left our home in Seaside heading toward the City of Hanford, Kings County County Seat. We got on Highway 101 heading south, in Salinas, around 8:30. It was raining and continued to rain for about the next 60 miles. We had about another 10 miles to go when we took the Highway 198 East turn off. Highway 198 was one heck of a ride. We saw some of the most interesting and unusual mountain ranges we had seen in a long time. There were a lot of ups and downs and quite a few curves. While the views were great the driving was another story. While going that way was very beautiful, I don't think we want to go that way again.

Once we crossed  over Highway 5 the road got so much better. We soon arrived at Hanford and used my navigation system to help us get to the Rock N Roll Deli at 102 W. 7th Street. The Deli was suggested by my friend and broadcaster Gary Cocola. Mary Lou and I shared a veggie sandwich and a Diet Coke. Everything was great and I'll be highlighting the Rock N Roll Deli a little later. We took a couple of photos of the Kings County Court House in the County Seat Hanford, then headed to Visalia, County Seat of Tulare County.

When we got to Visalia, about 24 miles, and checked into the Visalia Hampton Inn around 2:00 P.M. After checking in we took a ride around the city. We stopped at the Visalia Mall and took a walk around in the Mall. Then we drove across the street to Kohl's and took a walk around there a bit. Then we went to a roller skating rink we saw and paid $2.00, a dollar each, to go in and be a spectator. For about an hour Mary Lou and I were highly entertained by watching all the skaters. It was the best $2.00 we ever spent.

After watching the skaters we went and found the County Court House and took a few photos.

Then we went to the Black Bear Diner at 900 S Mooney Blvd. I had a delicious steak and eggs, while Mary Lou had a loaded baked potato. We met '2' neat managers, Robert Velasquez and Francisco Gonzalez. After giving them a couple of our 'Why I Love Black Bear Diner' cards, they gave us a pie. Then I told them we were staying at the Hampton Inn they gave us another pie to give to the check in people at the hotel.

In the morning we got up about 7:30, got ourselves together, went downstairs for the complimentary breakfast, very good, went back upstairs, used the facilities, grabbed our gear and headed out to go home. This time we went up Highway 99 to Highway 152, a little past Madera and went west to home.
